I need to get out more...

So these last few days, well weeks we haven't really been up to much, what with Christmas getting in the way of normal life, and friends being away and classes stopping and of course moving to a new area, Theo and I haven't really been leaving the house. But that has got to change, after the nightmare day we had yesterday.

We didn't go out all day and poor Theo must have been super bored as he just followed me round all day and clung to me. He wouldn't let me do anything for myself or play by himself with toys. I thought maybe he's just going through that stage where all they want is you.

But this morning I went to get Theo weighed at my new baby clinic and was chatting to the HV about it. She was saying that to her Theo seemed like a completely normal little boy, who was happy, active, confident, sociable and completely secure with his attachment to me (as he was off crawling around the whole place trying to play with the other babies!) which was a relief, and I've realised I just need to get out the house more.

I need to go to places so he can be entertained there, and I need to go to local places so I can meet more mums in my new area, and I need to tire that tireless boy out!

One thing I would like for Theo's birthday is swimming lessons. He's been swimming a handful of times before, but not regular lessons and I think that would be an excellent thing for both of us; something physical for Theo and good for me too.

So as of today I'm going to get my act together, find new groups and classes to go to, get our regular routine back and get out of the house!

(I need to start being more active too, I've probably used up my sitting on my arse allowance for the year already...)

  1. It is a shame we don't live nearer each other! Although you a whole lot younger than me you lucky devil ;-) i think we share similar likes and babies of a similar age.
it's hard at the minute with the weather being so pants - i'm sure come the spring you'll be out and about all the time. i'm guilty of the same thing with stanley. sometimes i kid myself that going to the supermarket or wandering round town that Stanley has been out. but he hasn't really - he's been trapped in his buggy/trolley and wants to get out and explore. swimming classes are fun. we did some when stanley was a few months old, but they got expensive and i couldn't justify the cost to continue. however i'm planning on starting them again soon - it is good to as they learn safety things, i think you'd enjoy. i also might start music classes too, stanley loves music and is always doing funny dancing to the radio!
i'm hoping stanley will be walking soon, as crawling is limited - i don't really want him crawling all round the park in the wet and mud!
sorry didn't mean to post such a long comment but i have a free minute and once started couldn't stop!

  2. I feel exactly the same! It's hard to meet Mum's here that I can connect with (they're either in their 30's/40's and don't get my style or just not my kind of person) but I HAVE to make more of an effort. There isn't much to do around here but as the weather hasn't been too bad I need to get out of the house more often. I wish we lived closer :( A great idea for Theo, swimming lessons will be so much fun! x

  3. I take Finn to Longwell Green for swimming lessons. He's in the pre-school class so we've not done the baby classes but I'm really pleased with them. Competitve prices too. Also, It's not that close to you but Gymtastic who run from Esporta in Bradley Stoke do amazing baby gym classes.

My boys are full of beans too (as you may have noticed at the Lionheart launch) so I know the feeling very well!
